Leon F. Williams Award
The Leon F. Williams Award for Significant Contribution to English Language Arts by an organization, institution, or program has been established to honor Leon F. Williams, who served VATE first as president and then as executive secretary for many years.
There are on occasion significant contributions to the teaching of English that occur as a result of many people's endeavors, usually as a result of a program or project or as part of organizational orinstitutional thrust. When such an award is given, attention is focused on both the award recipient and VATE as an organization.
- Selection Committee (12-14-96): The selection committee will consist of a committee of VATE past presidents appointed by the president each year. The president and the committee will be responsible for soliciting and considering nominations.
- The award, when given, will be announced at the VATE Fall Conference.
- The award will consist of a plaque and will be received by a designated member of the group receiving the award.
- The designated member will be invited to the banquet on Saturday of the Conference weekend.
- The banquet fee and Conference registration fee will be waived.
- The award need not be given every year.
Send nominations to current past president.
