Get Involved! Consider Applying for a Position on the VATE Board!

 

Are you looking for a way to get more involved?  Do you have leadership skills to share, and a dedication to teaching and learning English/Language arts on the elementary, middle, high school, or college level?  Your professional association, VATE, has a variety of leadership opportunities currently available, check out the details and put your enthusiasm and skills to work.  We are currently seeking candidates for the positions of  Elementary Member at Large, Affiliate Chair (multiple opportunities), Public Relations / Social Media Chair & Sub-Committee Member, and Writing Project Liaison.  Click on the link to learn more about volunteering to serve in these and other capacities.

 

Vice President

Do you want to shape the future of VATE? Do you have an idea or theme that you would like to see realized at a future conference?

  • 4 year presidential track
  • Attendance at executive board meetings required
  • Attends affiliate leaders’ workshops at the NCTE Convention
  • Assists the president-elect with the program and other supporting tasks for VATE’s Fall Conference
  • Succeeds to the office of president- elect

 

Elementary Member at Large

Are you the teacher that is always eager to share new ideas with colleagues?

  • 2 year term
  • Attendance at executive board meetings required
  • Represents elementary interests in policy decisions
  • Works to increase membership in their interest group
  • Facilitates grade level round table discussion at the annual conference
  • Contribute grade level appropriate content to VATE Voices, the VATE website, and on VATE’s social media platforms

 

Affiliate Chair

 

Do you enjoy organizing groups for outings or gatherings? Do you enjoy creating local, personalized professional development opportunities?

  • Attendance at executive board meetings is preferred
  • Serves as a liaison between the Executive Board and the local affiliates
  • Contributes content to VATE Voices, the VATE website, and on VATE’s social media platforms that encourages new affiliates, provides tips on starting/sustaining affiliates, reports on current local affiliate activity

 

Public Relations Chair

 

Are you the first person to share exciting news with colleagues? Do you feel a responsibility to keep others “in the loop”?

  • Attendance at executive board meetings required
  • Works with the executive board to coordinate public relations via both traditional media, and newer social media platforms
  • Heads a subcommittee of individuals that focus on establishing/maintaining VATE’s web presence via existing and emerging social media platforms

 

Public Relations Subcommittee Member

 

Do you enjoy engaging others via social media? Did you start the school year with new ideas from Pinterest? Is your twitter feed a current reflection of your personal and professional activities?

  • Attendance at board meetings not required
  • Reports to the Public Relations Chair
  • Responsible for creating/maintaining a current social media presence as assigned.

 

Virginia Writing Project Liaison

 

Have you participated in the Virginia Writing Project? Are you passionate about sharing the craft with others?

  • Attendance at board meetings is preferred
    • Gathers information about the VWP sites and report to the executive board throughout the year
    • Contributes content about the VWP to VATE Voices, the VATE website, and on VATE’s social media platforms
